Dead Man - S/T

A big plus for Kristoffer Sjoedahl's superb vocals and the bands feeling for melody and harmony. Another thing that must be mentioned is the effort put in to make the production sound so authentically retro. Dead Man is clearly one of the bands topping the Swedish 70's retro rock scene. Do not miss this.

Wizard's Convention: Japanese Heavy Rock Showcase

Sorry for the long gone but, work and work and christmas are definitely not a perfect match. So I guess this is a special treat to all of you, who visit regularly the blog.

This is once again, an awesome demonstration of the great talent that comes from across the world, our Japanese fellas bring us a showcase of their best music. We've the mighty Boris playing some "Akuma No Uta" & "Heavy Rocks" material, Church of Misery playing (mainly) their fourth full-lenght studio album "The Second Coming", while Eternal Elysium break through with their heavy riffs, the Greenmachine dudes show us what is their sludge made of.

Cosmic Vishnu - Colossus Mountain

This two young guys bring to you ladys and gentlemans of the doomish planet, some heavy travelling songs, mainly the massive "Iron Ships on the Silver Sea" that takes you to viking lands, and brutal axes. The other two songs feel like a more stoner thing, with that fuzz distorion ringing in your hears on a way that gonna make you headbang.

Red Sparowes - Aphorisms

Fans of Red Sparowes that have yet to hear this record may be feeling a little anxious do to how radical I've kind of implied it sounds. To be honest this simply isn't as vastly different from their other material as I imply. The lengthy song titles are here with the opener being label as "We Left the Apes to Rot, But Find the Fang Grows Within" and the basic structure of the songs are the same as before. Said opener is a trip between a mathy introduction that forms its way into one of the band's most gorgeous sections through a transition of white noise. "Aphorisms" comes off as a record where the band is using the same pieces as always just sort of mixing up how those pieces are arranged.

Russian Circles - Geneva

Geneva is a linear, ruthlessly gorgeous album. There's barely a breath between tracks, but there's a rhyme and reason to its every nuance; no tangent is allowed to branch off without careful analysis of where it may lead... The band is never uncertain or ambivalent about their next move... Listen, and become immersed in a master class of timbre and tonal sculpting, classic both in level and scope.

Electric Wizard - Live at BBC (Maida Vale Studios)

The thickness of its sound, it can really make you shit your pants, in a way or the other. Performing directly for you this fellas, dont play on heavy work and they hit you like a thor's hammer making you go nuts. This isn't just another ordinary BBC session, this is probably the most heavy band to have crossed the BBC sessions pad.
